Let's Go Track Hunting!
"Let's go track hunting," they said! "You walk in the middle of the trail, I'll walk on the edge." Off they went, walking together, circling some tracks as they found them, sometimes counting toes, sometimes comparing the size of footprints to their own hands. Eventually they found tiny round scat! They wondered at who might have made it, breaking it up with sticks to find only what looked like chewed grasses within. At this point, many friends had joined the quest, all contributing an idea of who they thought had left the scat. The hole in the ground was found later, and the children wondered if the maker of round scat lived in the hole nearby. No adult told them the answers. Ongoing curiosity extends engagement and learning. Soon enough they will discover the maker of small round scat and the journey will have made the answer meaningful, memorable, and connected.
